Memorial for Charlie Kirk in New Jersey Canceled Due to Overwhelming Public Interest

Due to overcrowding, Sussex County, New Jersey, cancelled conservative leader Charlie Kirk’s funeral. Skylands Stadium in Augusta was considered for the event. However, organizers decided that the 4,500-person stadium could not accommodate the massive gathering.
Skylands Stadium never announced the event. People first considered a stadium funeral when they told management they wanted a community event to memorialize Kirk. But word spread, and multiple groups promoted the event. This caused excessively optimistic attendance forecasts. Due to the increased interest, several concerned about how safe and easy it would be to handle such a large crowd at the location.
Skylands Stadium stated that there was no formal event and that the cancelation was made for safety. They stated that crowd control and public safety concerns prompted the cancellation, not politics.
Big events in small spaces are difficult to plan, but they must be done correctly to keep everyone safe. Because no memorial service was held. If the Skylands Stadium event doesn’t happen, Charlie Kirk’s legacy will live on. Several tributes and vigils are planned elsewhere.
As the community considers this decision, it reminds them how difficult it is to arrange public events and how vital it is to consider all the things that could go wrong.
