Massive Wildfire Breaks Out Near Clinton Reservoir in West Milford, New Jersey

West Milford Township officials closed Clinton Road late Tuesday due to a fast-moving wildfire near the Clinton Reservoir that burned dozens of acres.
The Passaic County Buckabear Wildfire started Tuesday afternoon and spread quickly across the woods. The New Jersey Forest Fire Service reported a 70-acre uncontained fire late evening. Firefighters limited its nighttime advance with ground troops and specialized equipment.
The fire was huge, but officials said no homes or businesses were in danger and no evacuation orders were in effect Tuesday night. To protect residents and drivers, Clinton Road was closed between Goldfinch Lane and Van Orden Road during the fighting.
New Jersey wildfires above 100 acres are deemed “major”. This fire hadn’t reached that point by Tuesday night, but its rapid spread frightened officials. The steep terrain and deep forest made firefighting difficult, and dry weather fanned flames quickly.
Buckabear Wildfire investigators will explore natural or human causes once conditions allow. New Jersey Forest Fire Service fire containment and size updates would arrive Wednesday morning.
This tragedy adds to recent wildfires around the state, warning residents of dry forest risks. There have been no injuries or damage, but fire officials encourage the public to be cautious, avoid closed locations, and prevent fire-starting behaviors.
