Legendary Scorpions Bassist Francis Buchholz Passes Away at 71 After Cancer Battle

Scorpions bassist Francis Buchholz died at 71 after a private battle with illness. His family announced his passing on his Facebook site in an emotional post. They described his gentle, loving death, expressing their grief at losing a loved one.
Buchholz, from West Germany, joined Scorpions in 1973. He contributed to 12 albums with the band over nearly two decades, influencing rock music. His 1974 album “Fly to the Rainbow” and 1979 and 1990 albums “Lovedrive” and “Crazy World” are well-known. Scorpions’ characteristic sound was built on his thunderous bass lines, which gave them international acclaim.
Buchholz quit the band 1992. He left the music industry due to group conflict and a desire to spend time with his family. His music passion persisted after his departure. He toured the US and Europe with former Scorpions guitarist Uli Jon Roth in 2005. He later recorded “Bridge the Gap” in 2013 and “Spirit on a Mission” in 2015 with Temple of Rock guitarist Michael Schenker and toured internationally.
Buchholz was known during his life for his musical talent and family devotion. His wife Hella and children Sebastian, Louisa, and Marietta survive him. His family said they honored his character and strength by staying by his side during his sickness.
