Hunterdon County Saves 118 Acres of Precious Land with $1.29 Million Investment

Hunterdon County in New Jersey is spending $1.29 million to save 118 acres of land. This means nobody can build houses or shops there, and the land will stay green and safe for people, animals, and nature.

Which Land is Saved?

  • Stavola Property (105 acres) – The biggest one! It’s getting $1.2 million. This place is special for nature and history, so they want to keep it safe forever.

  • Ponzini Property (13 acres) – Smaller, but still important. Animals live here, and it’s pretty to look at.

Why This is Good

Hunterdon County has a special fund (like a money jar) to help buy land before it gets used for buildings. They can pay half the price so it’s easier to keep land green.

Yay! More green space for animals and people to enjoy!

Commissioner Jeff Kuhl, who helps plan how land is used, said this is a “big win” for Hunterdon County. He said the Stavola land is one of the best things they’ve saved in many years. These lands will help people and nature for a long, long time.

What’s Next?

Hunterdon County is already really good at saving land — they’ve protected more than 30,000 acres so far! Now, with these new grants, even more land will stay green and safe. People will be able to hike, animals will have homes, and the air will stay clean.

If you want to know more about how they do this, you can look at their Open Space Trust Fund program. It’s all about keeping New Jersey green!
