Hunterdon County Pushes for Restoration of Full Vehicle Services in Flemington

Hunterdon County authorities want the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission to restore full registration and licensing services in Flemington, saying the present restrictions on citizens, businesses, and local governments are unnecessary. People who must go beyond the county for typical motor vehicle transactions are frustrated by the county’s request.
Hunterdon County Board of Commissioners Director John E. Lanza demanded that the NJMVC restore all Flemington services. Lanza wrote to Acting Chief Administrator Latrecia Littles-Floyd that withholding registration services has forced families, auto dealers, and government offices to spend more time and money on fundamental tasks like vehicle title and registration renewals. He called the lack of full service “not just an inconvenience,” but “a burden.” Reduced services have caused inefficiencies and higher expenses for smaller auto dealers that rely on local services to compete. Residents and businesses now travel to adjacent counties for local duties.
Lanza described the restoration of Flemington services as fair and efficient. He said Hunterdon County deserves the same access as other parts of the state and that reestablishing full MVC services is simple and aligned with equal service and government accountability. With this request, the county has informed legislators in the 15th, 16th, and 23rd districts of the widespread impact of reduced services.
Many Flemington residents claim the loss of services has caused extra travel, longer wait times, and higher costs. Restoring those programs will benefit working families, small companies, and county resources, according to local leaders. Hunterdon County administrators hope the NJMVC will quickly restore vehicle registration services to the Flemington site so ordinary motor vehicle transactions may resume.
