Hudson County Man Arrested After Alleged Sexual Assault of Teen Met on Instagram

A 25-year-old resident of Hudson County, New Jersey, was arrested and charged for allegedly sexually assaulting a youngster he met on social media. As prosecutors charge the suspect, the case has highlighted the hazards young people confront when connecting with strangers online.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office arrested Richard Moran of Weehawken on Wednesday after investigating claims involving a juvenile girl. According to prosecutors, Moran initially communicated with the 15-year-old victim on Instagram before the alleged crimes.

After meeting the minor, the suspect allegedly raped her numerous times at his Weehawken home in June 2025. Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello said law police began investigating after the instances were reported.

That investigation led to significant criminal accusations against Moran. He was charged with second-degree sexual assault, a crime under New Jersey law with severe penalties if convicted. In addition, he faces a third-degree accusation of endangering the welfare of a child, which involves actions that put minors at risk of damage or exploitation.

Moran is in the Hudson County Jail awaiting court after his arrest. He is in detention awaiting court proceedings.

The inquiry and charges have not been disclosed by authorities. Moran’s legal representation was unknown when officials announced the arrest.

New Jersey prosecutors and law enforcement take minor offense cases seriously. Officials stress the necessity of reporting questionable or dangerous internet contacts with youngsters.
