‘GoodFellas’ Vibes Hit New Jersey Politics as Ciattarelli’s Campaign Embraces Pop Culture

Jack Ciattarelli’s

Jack Ciattarelli, a Republican candidate for governor of New Jersey, has a campaign poster inspired by “GoodFellas.” The imaginative tactic has sparked statewide interest and discourse, giving the election battle a Hollywood touch.

The campaign poster for a North Wildwood event portrays Ciattarelli and conservatives Benny Johnson and Scott Presler. The parody movie poster, based on the 1990 Martin Scorsese film, features the trio in dark suits with the motto “FLIP NEW JERSEY RED.” Fans called them the “GoodFellas” of New Jersey politics to symbolize their ambition to regain the state for Republicans.

The gathering will include North Wildwood Mayor Patrick Rosenello and CapeGOP Chairman Mike Donohue, as part of Ciattarelli’s efforts to mobilize conservative voters before the next election. New Jersey pride and traditional values have been central to his campaign, connecting with Italian American heritage and local identity. Being a loyal Italian American, Ciattarelli commits to honor family traditions like Columbus Day and promote the state’s rich Italian American community.

Supporters laughed and applauded the parody poster, but other political observers saw the deeper strategy. Ciattarelli portrays himself as a strong, street-smart Jersey candidate who understands local culture and isn’t scared to fight for his state by referencing the “GoodFellas” image. Johnson and Presler, internet conservatives, have rallied the base on social media with posts and slogans saying the “GoodFellas are going to save New Jersey.”

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign involvement adds intrigue. Trump has endorsed Ciattarelli and supported him virtually, but it is unclear if he would appear with the Republican candidate. Trump’s Wildwood rallies have drawn large audiences, so a visit may benefit Ciattarelli’s candidacy.

Persistence and close races have distinguished Ciattarelli’s political career. He remains a significant player in the New Jersey GOP after narrowly losing to Governor Phil Murphy in 2021. After failing in 2017, he continued his bid to lead New Jersey. The “GoodFellas” event is another step in his campaign to connect with voters through comedy and native pride.

Hollywood visuals and political messaging seem appropriate in a state known for its big characters and pop culture. The “GoodFellas” approach may not generate enough votes to turn New Jersey red, but this campaign knows how to get people talking.
