Former Yankees Star Mark Teixeira Praises Trump as He Launches Texas Congressional Bid

Former Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira declared his Texas congressional campaign and endorsed Trump. The former baseball star, famed for his power hitting and defense, wants to promote “America First” in Washington.
After Rep. Chip Roy withdrew from Texas’ 21st Congressional District, Teixeira, 45, confirmed his candidacy. Roy is running for Texas Attorney General, so Teixeira can enter. The 2009 Yankees World Series champion and three-time MLB All-Star said he chose to represent Texas families and believe in conservative principles.
On the “Don’t @ Me with Dan Dakich” podcast, Teixeira dubbed Trump “the most influential president of my lifetime.” He commended Trump for showing political courage and said his programs help working-class Americans. Teixeira claimed Trump’s leadership stopped a socialist-like federal government takeover by Democrats.
His campaign would emphasize Texas principles, individual liberty, and government support, not control, said Teixeira. The previous president “fought for America, got shot at, kept going, and decided that it’s America first,” he said. Teixeira claimed this conviction drives his Republican candidacy and campaigns.
Maryland native Teixeira has lived in Austin for years and knows Texas. He spent his final eight years with the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Angels, and New York Yankees after the Texas Rangers. After entering politics, he wants to bring field discipline and leadership to Congress.
Texas politics gains a high-profile figure in Teixeira at a time when Republicans unite behind Trump’s national effect. His sports background and staunch Trump backing will distinguish his candidacy. It’s uncertain how 21st District voters would react to the former Yankee’s move to Capitol Hill as campaign season begins.
