FDA Warns Consumers After Popular Herbal Supplement Found to Contain Undisclosed Viagra Ingredient

After an online nutritional supplement contained a prescription drug, U.S. health regulators advised people to check their medicine cabinets. The caution follows FDA testing that found an undisclosed pharmaceutical component in a natural supplement.
Federal health regulators say Albuquerque-based Primal Supplements Group LLC has voluntarily recalled all Primal Herbs Volume dietary supplement orders. Laboratory testing found sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, in the supplement, prompting the recall. Consumers who bought the supplement thinking it contained only herbs were at risk because the substance was not specified on the label.
The company’s website sold the affected supplement from July 2 to September 19, 2025. Customers who ordered during that time may have received the recall. The supplement came in 8.5-ounce round containers with a green label.
Sildenafil in non-prescription products creates concerns since customers may accidentally take a potent medication without medical supervision, say health regulators. A licensed healthcare provider prescribes sildenafil for controlled usage. Without supervision, it can interact with other drugs and cause serious health issues.
Taking nitrates is a major problem for authorities. Medications for heart disease, chest discomfort, diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol include nitrates. Sildenafil with nitrates can induce dangerously low blood pressure. Medical problems and life-threatening complications might result from this fast decline.
The substance was not listed on the supplement’s label, so buyers and users may not have known they were taking a prescription medicine. Health experts say this raises concerns about dietary supplements containing undisclosed prescription drugs.
Sildenafil can only be used under medical supervision, according to the federal government. Without disclosure, such compounds in over-the-counter supplements pose health concerns and may cause customers to misuse a carefully regulated medication.
Primal Herbs Volume buyers from the affected timeframe should cease using it immediately. Customers should contact the company about their purchase. Customers who contact the company with order data may receive a free replacement shipment or full store credit.
The recall reminds consumers to be wary of online dietary supplement sales, especially those promising fast results. Health officials continue to advise purchasers to read labels and consult doctors before buying supplements that may interact with prescriptions or medical conditions.
Monitoring and enforcement are crucial to protecting customers against harmful or misleading items, according to authorities. In this example, an unreported prescription medicine was quickly removed from circulation and warned of potential hazards.
