Fatal Stabbing in Jersey City Sparks Homicide Investigation

City officials say a downtown Jersey City man was stabbed to death Friday afternoon after an argument. He died when the fight escalated outside on Maxwell Street in Ward E, according to Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and local police.

The victim suffered an abdomen stab wound when officers arrived at 12:20 p.m. He died shortly after 1 p.m. after emergency transfer to Jersey City Medical Center. Protect the victim’s identity until family learns.

A suspect from the initial investigation is uncharged. The Jersey City Police and prosecutor’s homicide squad are interviewing witnesses to determine motivation.

On social media, Ward E councilman James Solomon stated the dispute was personal, not gang-related. He said citizens are furious and the city would help the victim’s family investigate.

Local officials have requested information from anyone with relevant knowledge. People were shocked by downtown Maxwell Street violence. The killer and argument are unknown to the prosecutor.
