Ex-LGBTQ+ Advocate Steps Down Amid Child Endangerment and Assault Allegations

Christian Fuscarino, executive director of Garden State Equality, resigned after being accused of child endangerment and violence at his Neptune City residence Resigning on social media, the 35-year-old New Jersey LGBTQ+ rights campaigner stressed business-personal separation.

Fuscarino labeled it a family matter and disliked media attention. He assured the public that the issue is being handled properly and safely.

Fuscarino faces two simple assault and second-degree caregiver endangerment charges. November 9: Fuscarino allegedly took a child from bed, attacked them in the face, and slammed them against a wall. Home security footage was retrieved by police.

The Monmouth County Child Advocacy Center in Freehold found no physical abuse in the child’s forensic interview. After observing Fuscarino hit the toddler, another intervened. On November 21, Neptune City police arrested Fuscarino. Monmouth County Prosecutor investigates.

New Jersey’s largest LGBTQ+ advocacy group, Garden State Equality, immediately placed Fuscarino on leave after the claims. The next day, the organization’s website removed his profile. They promised to obey the law and opposed violence.

Since 2016, Fuscarino led Garden State Equality with 20 years of LGBTQ+ campaigning. LGBTQ+ rights, transgender education, and hate crime prevention were his goals. He told his story and promised to defend and equalize NJ LGBTQ+ people.

A prominent advocate who promoted statewide equality and inclusion is stunned by this departure. The community and organization must separate a leader’s personal behavior from a civil rights group’s aim during the legal process.
