Trump a ‘Crybaby’: Ex-GOP Rep Joe Walsh Slams Social Media Rants

Former Republican congressman Joe Walsh again criticized Donald Trump after his fiery social media posts sparked a political tempest. Walsh, who represented Illinois in the House and later criticized Trump, called the former president dangerously authoritarian and thin-skinned.

Trump was criticized after his Truth Social attacks on Sunday. Trump asked that ABC News and NBC News lose their broadcast licenses, calling them “threats to democracy” and biased against him. He mocked Maryland Democratic Governor Wes Moore’s invitation to stroll the streets of Baltimore and provoked former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie by proposing he be investigated for the “Bridgegate” issue.

Walsh, who responded on X (previously Twitter), said Trump’s behavior is not political play. “It’s funny. Walsh called Trump the worst crybaby ever. It’s harmful on another level. He uses his office to bully, harass, threaten, defund, and destroy businesses and individuals. Avoid normalizing this.”

The former lawmaker’s opinions carry particular weight considering his experience with Trump and the Republican Party. Former Tea Party darling Walsh failed to defeat Trump in the 2020 GOP presidential primary. Following the race, he quit the Republican Party, ultimately calling himself an independent. Walsh joined the Democratic Party this summer, saying the political atmosphere required him to directly oppose Trump.

Trump’s assaults over the weekend demonstrated his continued tactic of punishing individuals who oppose him. In addition to criticizing media outlets and governors, Trump has continued to direct his government toward launching investigations against political enemies. His administration has investigated New York Attorney General Letitia James, California Congressman Adam Schiff, and former Governor Andrew Cuomo. After publicly criticizing him, former administration members Miles Taylor and Chris Krebs have being investigated.

Trump’s increasingly hostile social media posts reflect his rising animosity toward critics and institutions he claims wrong him. His fans applaud his tough approach, while opponents say that his threats to remove licenses, limit federal money, or prosecute rivals threaten democratic principles. Walsh reminded Americans that Trump’s remarks and influence on Republican politics and government institutions are dangerous.

Walsh’s criticism is notable because he was a Republican who helped Trump rise. Walsh calls Trump a “crybaby” and warns of authoritarian inclinations to convey a message: ignoring his statements as noise is a mistake and a threat to democracy.

As Trump attacks critics and frames the media as an enemy, Walsh is trying to highlight a misuse of power. Walsh’s harsh criticism shows that Trump’s controversial manner continues to divide political parties and former Republicans.
