Elderly Woman with Mobility Challenges Rescued from Burning Somerset County Home in Early Morning Fire

Opossum Road in Somerset County, New Jersey, burned Friday morning. Fire threatened a crippled elderly woman. Around 4:13 a.m., Montgomery Township police, firefighters, and EMTs found the entire house on fire. Heavy smoke and heat startled everyone inside.
First responders heard an elderly person inside. One officer found more people who could help find the woman at the back of the house. Three officers quickly saved her from the flaming house. They avoided disaster soon.
Two nearby persons were hospitalized for smoke inhalation. Fire victims got aid. Local and Montgomery Township firefighters contained the fire, eliminated hotspots, and ventilated the home. The Montgomery Township Fire Marshal is investigating the fire’s cause.
Fire safety is critical in low-mobility homes. Officials prioritize safety checks, working smoke alarms, and clear exits. Police, firefighters, and doctors swiftly treated everyone and stopped the damage.
