Devils Star Still Not Close to Returning, Coach Says

New Jersey Devils defenseman Brett Pesce’s absence is a major issue as their toughest stretch begins. The team’s latest update states Pesce, who injured his hand on Oct. 26, is out. The Devils were without a key blue liner for over a month due to his delayed recovery.

The Devils’ defense has deteriorated since Pesce’s injury. He provides crucial calm and consistent defense for the club. The Devils are 9-7-1 without him, but their defense is erratic. They’ve given up more dangerous chances, struggled on zone exits, and relied on goaltending in critical circumstances.

New Jersey has many injuries besides Pesce. Our league-high man-games lost this season show how often missing players changed lines, pairings, and game plans. This frequent shift has disrupted chemistry and rhythm, especially in the defensive unit where consistent partnering is crucial.

Devils persist despite odds. Expanded responsibilities have increased offensive depth and collaboration, as these players survived. The coaching staff hopes Pesce’s return will address the defensive zone shortly.

Devils will keep their lineup until Pesce recovers. The coaching team advised patience because rushing his recovery could set him back. Due to the group’s busy schedule, he’s absent nightly but must return when ready.
