AOC Fires Back at Anti-Trans Critic with Sharp Response
Transgender sports activist Riley Gaines criticized Ocasio-Cortez online. The feud began when Gaines commented, “we’re being destroyed from within,” with a rally photo of Ocasio-Cortez, Zohran Mamdani, and Bernie Sanders. The comment prompted Ocasio-Cortez to say, “Maybe if you channeled all this anger into swimming faster, you wouldn’t have come in fifth.”
Gaines made recognized after coming fifth in the 200-yard freestyle with transgender swimmer Lia Thomas at the 2022 NCAA women’s championships. She became famous for fighting transgender women’s sports and reforming athletics eligibility laws with conservative legal groups. AOC’s comment targets Gaines’s activism and athleticism.
