Police Respond to Knife Threat at New Jersey Home, Find Three Dead After Fatal Shooting

State and local authorities said police responding to a knife threat at a Piscataway, New Jersey, house shot a man and found three people dead Monday evening. Police said the incident is isolated and not a public concern.
Piscataway police arrived to a River Road house at 5:30 p.m. after receiving a 911 call. A caller reported a knife-wielding man inside the home. Officers found a knife-wielding man. Police shot and killed the man, officials said.
Police examined the property after the incident and uncovered unsettling evidence. Three more died inside the house. As of Monday night, authorities have not revealed how or who died.
Officially, the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office stated that the Middlesex County Prosecutor is investigating the house killings. As usual in lethal police shootings, force is assessed.
Police in Piscataway Township initially termed it a homicide but stated there was no threat. The agency indicated in a public statement that the incident appears to be limited to the residence and community is safe. The scene was busy Monday night for hours. Police cars, ambulances, and detectives were outside the 800 River Road residence. Warning tape stopped traffic between Mitchell and Hanson avenues. Traffic was diverted while investigators secured the spot and collected evidence.
River Road is visible near Rutgers University’s Livingston campus. A neighbor told a local TV station that six gunshots were heard after police arrived at 6 p.m. That report matches authorities’ timeline.
New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association President Peter Andreyev called the crime a terrible crime and corroborated the officers’ evaluation on social media. Later, police said many cops were taken to a local hospital for precautionary evaluation and were fine.
