Trump Allies Lash Out as Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Candid Interview Sparks New MAGA Backlash

Marjorie Taylor Greene’s latest national television appearance has ignited a political storm in Washington and MAGA, which praised her as a heroic protector.

In her first significant interview since announcing she would leave Congress in early January, the Georgia Republican slammed former President Donald Trump and her old movement. Her statements on “60 Minutes” Sunday had pro-Trump supporters thinking Greene has abandoned her philosophy that made her famous.

Greene, a former Trump ally, seemed determined to distance herself from MAGA throughout the conversation. She told Lesley Stahl she is now “America First,” not MAGA, a modest but symbolic change conservatives interpreted as a divergence from Trump’s political brand.

She also said Republicans insulted Trump privately while supporting him publicly. Greene said members of Congress who attacked Trump’s leadership or attitude became followers after the 2024 primary. Her comments revealed GOP splits rarely seen.

Greene’s connection with Trump deteriorated after she split with Trump over government finance, foreign policy, health care, and the long-debated release of Jeffrey Epstein’s secret material. Trump’s unusually forthright withdrawal of support for Greene prompted speculation about whether it contributed to her departure from the House.

Public outrage followed the “60 Minutes” interview. Greene has been insulted, assaulted, and betrayed on social media, especially by MAGA supporters. Many former fans now call her dishonest and think she turned against Trump for personal gain. Many strongly indicated Trump’s support withdrawal showed her political goals.

Trump supporters labeled Greene’s words self-serving and accused her of trying to reinvent herself after losing the previous president’s backing. To demonstrate their transformation, some admirers compared her to controversial public figures.

Trump called Greene bitter after her shift on Monday. He deemed Greene untrustworthy and her ideas outdated. Trump also criticized her political identity and said she couldn’t handle political pressure.

Greene addressed criticism. She publicly supported the “America First” concept and accused Trump of distorting her goals after his comments. She claimed that Trump had “fueled” threats against her son after she objected, straining their relationship.

The congressman alerted Trump and other Republican officials about such threats, saying Vice President JD Vance acknowledged her concerns but Trump’s answer was less considered.

As Greene leaves Congress and her links to Trump weaken, their once-strong relationship appears to be over. MAGA supporters’ response highlights how quickly political loyalty may change and how perilous it is for former friends to publicly defy Trump.

After Greene leaves Capitol Hill, her interview raises concerns about Republican divides in 2025 and beyond.
