In a recent interview, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said President Donald Trump has asked federal authorities for updates on the earlier this year assassination attempt. The event affected Trump so much that he called the FBI and Secret Service to learn more, according to Leavitt.

The July 2024 Butler, Pennsylvania, campaign rally incident was terrifying. One of twenty-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks’ eight shots grazed Trump’s right ear. Corey Comperatore, 50, died and two others were injured. Sniper killed Crooks.

In the summer, a lengthy Senate report called Secret Service planning and response failures “unacceptable.” Six agents were on leave after the report found security flaws. Still, these results raise questions about how transparent and thorough the investigation was.

Leavitt told reporters that Trump has requested federal briefings since returning to the White House. Since it was private, Leavitt wouldn’t say if the president liked the information. Trump requested updated briefings to understand the day’s events, she said.

The press secretary said 16 months after the assassination attempt, there are no answers. This sparked public interest. Leavitt: “I understand why the public wants those questions answered. I think the president does.”

FBI Director Kash Patel said over 480 agents investigated. Over 1,000 interviews, 2,000 public tips, 13 digital devices, almost 500,000 files, and hundreds of hours of video were collected. Ten accounts’ financial records and 25 social media or online platforms’ activity were examined. Patel said Crooks worked alone, didn’t discuss the plan, and didn’t reveal his plans.

According to Leavitt, Trump turned his head before the bullet hit, making the near-miss “miraculous.” It was a miracle given the odds. He said, “I think he knows that, and millions of Americans believe that, and God saved President Trump in that moment.”

Two attempts to kill Trump occurred in 2024, starting in Butler. Again, Ryan Routh was convicted of trying to kill Trump at his Florida golf course. After pleading not guilty to five charges, he could face life in prison in December.

Leavitt’s revelations raise concerns about presidential safety and federal agency responsibility. After months, the president and public still want to know how such a dangerous breach occurred, demonstrating the importance of leader safety.
