Jersey City officials say a 79-year-old man is fighting for his life after a house fire on Tuesday severely injured him and caused significant damage. Local police are probing Saturday morning’s occurrences.

Officials reported the Baldwin Avenue single-family home burnt at 1:00 a.m. Smoking caused reactions. Firefighters found a burning basement. Old man was comatose at home chilling when first responders arrived.

Livingston firemen escorted him to Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center. His wounds are severe yet stable, say doctors.

Unknown number of persons witnessed fire start-up and house damage. Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and Jersey City Fire Department are investigating the fire’s cause. Fire seems natural, but officials investigate.

Locals were horrified by the child’s late-night activities. Firefighters advocated smoke alarms and flame reporting in fire investigations.
